Why choose my creative writing groups?
- I am a qualified and experienced teacher who is able to plan structured sessions to enable students to make good progress.
- My groups have a maximum of 8 children which allows the students to share ideas but also receive individual attention.
- The groups are engaging for the students, who are encouraged to interact with each other.
Who are my creative writing sessions suitable for?
Whether you are preparing for the 11+ or just wanting to improve your child’s creative writing skills my groups are suitable for your child.
I have creative writing sessions for children in years 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.
The year 6 group is more focused on preparing for the 11+ creative writing and looks at they style of questions asked in the exam.
How are the sessions structured?
The sessions are taught online using Zoom and last for an hour.
During the first part of the session students are shown an image and are encouraged to think about the plot that could link to the image.
The session then focus on literary devices and how they could fit into the story. The use of literary devices is developed during the course. The students are taught how to use the different literary devices effectively within their writing.
During the final part of the session we look at different sentence structures and how they could be used within the story, this section sometimes covers different punctuation that the children could include in their writing.
The children have optional homework each session. This is usually to complete the story using the planning and sentences written in the session.
How are parents involved?
At the beginning of the half term parents are added to a WhatsApp group, this is where I post the Zoom links and anything that is needed to be prepared for the session. Usually all parents need to do is print off one sheet before the session.
After the session I post examples of work completed during the session and any resources that will help the students with their homework. Parents can also ask questions about the weekly sessions in the WhatsApp group.
